In Michigan, it is legal to work as either a certified or uncertified postpartum doula because there is no state requirement to hold a certification. Furthermore, there is no state requirement to have a high school diploma or equivalent to be able to work in the state.

Course and Workshop Details and Requirements
This is a 18 hour postpartum doula training workshop. This workshop will span 2 days and is required for CPD certification through CAPPA. The workshop is offered on October 21-22, 2017 from 9:00AM – 7:00PM each day.

This 3 day. 30 hour, workshop will satisfy the DONA requirements for attendance of a postpartum doula workshop. The Breastfeeding Basics course is included.
Prerequisites
- Attend the Breastfeeding Basics course that is part of the workshop. The Breastfeeding Basics course is required by DONA.
Course and Workshop Topics
As part of your postpartum doula training, these classes will cover the following:
- Learn the ins and outs of how a postpartum doula is able to provide holistic healing, emotional support, and comfort measures
- Understand the significance of bonding and how to encourage bonding between mother and newborn
- Engage in newborn care and safety through hands-on activities
- Receive training in recognizing the signs of postpartum depression and when to make a referral
- Gain knowledge of how to deal with twins or other multiple births
- Understand how to calm and soothe an infant
- Discuss what to do during your interview, how much to charge, and other business topics
- Go over the ethics and the certification process for DONA International
