Doula Training in Alaska

In Alaska, there is no requirement for you to receive a certification as a birth doula.  Also, there is no requirement for you to have a bachelor’s degree or any other type of university degree.

The following is a list of training classes or workshops available in the state of Alaska that you can use as part of your doula training.  Please read the details to determine if the training courses are required for certification if you decide to pursue one.

Course and Workshop Details and Requirements

  • 3 day Birth doula training workshop (requirement towards DONA certification)
  • Read training literature from a DONA approved reading list
  • Complete the course evaluation
  • Dates: 3/9/2017 to 3/11/2017

Course and Workshop Topics
As part of your doula training, these courses will cover the following:

  • Identify duties of a doula, a nurse, a doctor, and a midwife
  • Understand both the emotional and psychological impact of labor and birth
  • Roleplaying to learn how to empower the mother
  • Identify the onset of labor
  • Discuss the ethics and requirements for certification
  • Explain the role of a doula during difficult pregnancies and cesarian sections
  • Understand the importance your role during the postpartum period

Costs and Fees

Birth doula workshop – $450
A non-refundable $100 deposit is required during your registration
A $25 discount is available if the fees are paid at least 21 days before the class
