Postnatal Doula Training in Australia


You are not required to have a certification to become a postpartum or postnatal doula in any of the states or territories in Australia.  There is also no restriction for you to have a degree from a college or university in order to start working with your clients.

Course and Workshop Details and Requirements

This is a 2 day postnatal and birth doula training workshop.  This curriculum is for women interested in becoming a complete doula with training that focuses on how to become both a birth and postpartum doula.  The postnatal classes are taken online, while the birth doula workshop is taught in person.  The workshop is offered on March 25-26, July 22-23, and Nov. 25-26, 2017.


Costs and Fees

The cost for the combination birth and postnatal doula workshop is $3,200.  You can opt to take the postnatal training alone for $850.

Course and Workshop Topics

As part of your postnatal doula training, these classes will teach you the following concepts:
  • Discuss the different roles of a postnatal doula as she works to support her client and her newborn in the postpartum period
  • Identify postnatal moods such as depression or anxiety
  • Develop listening and communication skills in order to better serve your client
  • Understand that there are different styles of parenting and how to address common parental concerns
  • Train in feeding the infant through breastfeeding and/or bottle feeding
  • Learn how to run your postnatal doula business
