In Missouri, you can work without a postpartum doula certification because there is no state requirement for you to become certified. However, many doulas choose to advance their careers by becoming certified.   Also, there is no state requirement to have a college degree in order to work.

Course and Workshop Details and Requirements

This is a 3 and a half day (30 hour) birth and postpartum doula training program.  Although, the center caters to African-American women, anyone can attend the workshop regardless of their ethnicity. This workshop is part of the ICTC certification curriculum.


Course and Workshop Topics

The workshop will go over the following topics as part of your postpartum doula training:
  • Discuss the various responsibilities of a postpartum doula's job
  • Learn the characteristics of pregnancy and labor
  • Understand the physiology and anatomy of birth
  • Learn  breastfeeding techniques and newborn care methods
  • Identify postpartum rituals
  • Engage in postpartum bonding of the newborn with the family
  • Discuss the aspects of running your business
  • Discuss the ethics and the certification requirements for ICTC

The 3.5 day birth and postpartum doula combination workshop is $800.  Partial scholarships are available.
