Doula Training in Oklahoma

A doula can work in Oklahoma without being certified.  The state also does not require a high school or university degree for you to work. Depending on your career goals, you may wish to pursue a certification, however, it is not a state requirement.

The following is a list of educational classes and workshops available in the state of Oklahoma which can be used towards your doula training.

Course and Workshop Details 

This is a 2 day birth doula training workshop  which is required for DONA certification.  This workshop is offered on April 25-26, 2017.  There is also additional classes as prerequisites for the training workshop:  Breastfeeding for Doulas and Introduction to Childbirth, both are free and are required as part of the DONA certification process.

Course and Workshop Details and Requirements

This is a 3 day doula training workshop from November 4-6, 2016.  This course is affiliated with DONA and fulfills the workshop requirement for a DONA certification.

Course and Workshop Topics

As part of your doula training, these courses will cover the following:
  • Learn the scope of a doula's job, its benefits, and its history
  • Describe the stages of labor and birth, pain management, and medical interventions such as cesarean/VBAC childbirths
  • Learn how utilize visualization, breathing techiques, and relaxation techniques
  • Discuss how to provide postpartum support to the new mother and baby, as well as the father
  • Learn how to set up your practice and how to make prenatal contact with your clients
  • Discuss the DONA certification process


  • Attendance of a DONA-approved Childbirth Education class, which is offered on Nov. 4.  
  • Complete a prenatal questionnaire. 
  • Read the following doula training literature:
    • "The Birth Partner" by Penny Simkin (2013 or later)
    • "Pregnancy, Childbirth, and the Newborn" by Simkin et al (2011 or later)
